Star Fruit Chutney

Star Fruit Chutney is a spicy and tangy easy chutney , pachadi or side dish recipe prepared with very less ingredients that are very easily available in the house. This is a typical south Indian Chutney recipe prepared using Star Fruit recipe that is freshly available during the months of August , September and October. This seasonal fruit will be juicy , sweet and sour in taste.

This Star Fruit Chutney  is very nutritious and healthy packed with full of nutrients. This chutney can be prepared easily even by bachelors  . It is a instant side dish recipe prepared with in few minutes. Ingredients :-

  • 3  Star Fruits
  • 2 to 3 green chilly
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 red chilly
  • Pinch asafetida
  • Few curry leaves

Method :-

Wash the star fruit nicely and cut the fruit  to thin slices or pieces and remove the seeds  and keep aside.

Heat half tsp of ghee in a non stick pan and add in cumin seeds and allow to splutter.

Then add in turmeric powder, garlic pods and green chilly and give a nice mix  for30 seconds.

Immediately add in chopped star fruit  and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until star fruit turns transparent.

Lastly add in coriander leaves , give a good mix and switch off the stove.

Allow to cool down completely and crush in mixer adding salt and sugar.

Crush the chutney to fine paste with out adding the water.

Heat the remaining ghee in a wok , then add in mustard seeds , cumin seeds , curry leaves .

When the mustard seeds splutters ,put in  red chilly and asafetida and switch off the flame.

Then give a nice mix and put this tempering on the chutney.

Serve the tasty tangy yummy Star Fruit Chutney.

Tips :-

  • You may store this chutney in fridge for 15 to 20 days.
  • This chutney goes good with roti , phulka , idli and dose also.
  • Can use this chutney to prepare a spread by mixing mayo.
  • You may use this chutney even in chaats.
  • Do not add water while crushing to maintain the shelf life for longer period .
