This Peas Curry is a traditional Side Dish recipe of North India. This recipe is very popularly prepared in most households of Uttarpradesh. This Peas curry is known as Mutter Ka Nimona in Uttar Pradesh. Peas curry tastes very different and yummy with out using even onion and garlic. This Curry very easy to prepare and tastes awesome with fresh green peas.
This Uttarpradesh style Peas Curry is excellent dinner recipe to serve with naan , roti or steamed rice or jeera rice. This Peas Curry tastes very unique so try this recipe with out fail and enjoy the taste of fresh peas.

Serves – 3 to 4 people
- 1 1/4 cup fresh green peas blanched
- 1 medium size potato boiled and mashed
- 1 tomato coarsely crushed
- 1 tbsp ginger chopped
- 4 to 5 green chilly
- 1/2 cup coriander leaves
- 1 1/2 tbsp desiccated coconut
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp ghee
- Pinch of asafetide
- 1 1/2 tbsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Coarse crush 1/2 cup of fresh green peas and keep aside.
Blanch the remaining peas in water adding little sugar and little salt.
Crush coriander leaves , ginger and green chilly to paste with out water.
Coarse crush the tomato to paste and set aside.
Heat the ghee and oil in a pan and add in fenugreek seeds and cumin seeds and allow to splutter.
Now add in asafetida and peas paste and roast nicely on low flame till raw smell disappears for a minute or so.
Then put in tomato paste and stir in till tomato becomes soft.
Add in green paste and sauté very well until nice aroma comes.
At this stage add all the dry masala powders and give a quick stir adding 2 tbsp water , roast nicely.
Add in blanched green peas and give a nice mix.
Then add the mashed potato and salt and cook the curry nicely adding sufficient hot water as per your consistency.
Combine the desiccated coconut and allow the curry to boil nicely.
Lastly add in little garam masala powder and lemon juice and give a nice mix , switch off the stove.
Serve this Hot Peas Curry garnished with Desiccated Coconut with roti or rice.
- Avoid using dry peas.
- No necessary to blanch the peas if you are using frozen peas.
- You may include garlic if you want.
- May serve this curry with poori also.
- Can use fine chopped tomato instead of tomato paste.
