Makhana Jaggery Mix is a very simple and healthy recipe which can also be offered to the Almighty as a pradasam or naivedyam during this Maga Mass , favorite to Lord Vishnu. Ladies can consume this jaggery mix instead of milk and reap the full benefits of milk from makhana and sesame.
Makhana is a part of the lotus flower , it is nothing but lotus seeds also called as Fox nuts in English. Makhana are low in calories and fat . they are therefore perfect in between meal snack. The presence of sufficient amount of protein in makhana helps in keeping you fuller for longer, so aids in weight loss. Makhana is very high in calcium , high in fiber , rich in antioxidants so boosts the metabolism .

Preparation time – 15 minutes
Mixing time – 5 minutes
Total time – 20 minutes
Makes – one bowl
- 1 cup makhana or lotus seeds
- 1 cup sesame seeds
- 3/4 cup organic jaggery powder
- 2 tbsp roasted peanuts
- 2 tbsp copra chopped to small pieces
- 2 tbsp cashew nuts
- 2 tbsp almonds
- 4 dates
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
Dry roast the makhana in two batches on low flame until they become crispy.
Dry roast the sesame also on low flame and keep aside.
Transfer the makhana , sesame and jaggery powder to the mixer jar and crush to slightly coarse powder.
Then dry roast the almonds , cashew nuts and copra slightly and allow to cool down and cut to small pieces .
Toss even dates till warm and then cut into pieces.
Add in roasted nuts , copra , roasted peanuts , dates and cardamom powder to the makhana mix and give a nice stir.
Then offer to the God topped with makhana and roasted peanuts.
- You may replace the jaggery powder with powder sugar or rock sugar powder.
- Can add walnuts and pista to the makhana jaggery mix.
- May store this healthy jaggery mix for more than one month.
- If you wish you can even fry the nuts in ghee and add to this satvic jaggery mix.
- Do not over roast the sesame to avoid bitterness from sesame.
