Green Tomato Chutney

Friends  you can see fresh green tomato nicely available now in the market, so I am sharing tasty , spicy , tangy  authentic  chutney or side dish recipe. This Chutney will be ready with in 15 minutes with out much effort.  This is made up of raw green tomato and peanuts spiced with green chilly.

You can enjoy this spicy Green Tomato Chutney with any type of roti, paratha or puri. Green Tomatoes are very good to cure varicose veins  and controls cholesterol levels in the body. So consume the green tomato  when they are available and reap the benefits as it is  seasonal vegetable.  Try this simple and healthy chutney and do not forget to share this recipe with your friends and relatives.

Serves – 3 to 4 persons

Green Tomato Chutney

Ingredients :-

  • 6 to 7 medium size green tomato  ( approx  500 gms )
  • 3 tbsp  peanuts
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 5 to 6 spicy green chilly
  • 8 garlic cloves
  • 1 1/2  tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp  jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/4  tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/8  tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4  tsp  black gram dal
  • Pinch of asafetida
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 red chilly

Method :-

Wash the tomatoes in water for two times and then cut into thin slices .

Heat half tbsp oil in a non stick pan , then add in cumin seeds and when they splutter.

Then add in garlic , green chilly and give a nice mix once.

Now add  in peanuts and roast nicely till  peanuts turns to light  golden brown.

At this stage add in sliced tomato and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes on low flame.

Close the lid and cook till tomato becomes slightly soft. then allow the tomatoes to cool down completely.

Transfer the sauted  tomatoes  to mixer jar , then add in salt  , coriander leaves and jaggery powder.

Then crush all the ingredients to coarse paste in mixer.

Heat the remaining oil in a kadai , then add in mustard seeds , cumin seeds  and sauté  till they splutter.

Then add in black gram dal and mix nicely , when the dal turns golden brown.

Now put in curry leaves , hing and  a red chilly.

Then mix all the ingredients and add in crushed chutney and sauté for two minutes.

Transfer the prepared chutney to a bowl. Garnish the chutney with tempering prepared.

Serve the tasty and spicy chutney.

Tips :-

  • Can store this chutney in fridge for three to four days.
  • You can enjoy this chutney with rotti , bele hollige and  steamed rice.
  • Roast  one onion fine chopped in the oil and add in chutney and give a nice mix , this is another variation .
