Dill Spinach Sabzi

Dill Spinach Sabzi  is very healthy and delicious sabzi or side dish  served with wheat roti or jowar roti in Maharashtra. This Dill Spinach Sabzi is very unique and flavorful with dill leaves. Dill Leaves has been used not only to add the flavor and taste , but also for its incredible wide ranging medicinal properties.

This Dill Spinach Sabzi  is very simple and easy healthy recipe. Dill Spinach Sabzi is very nutritious as the dill leaves in the sabzi is a great source of nutrients such as calcium , iron ,magnesium , potassium , vitamin C and B12 and filled with dietary fiber. This Dill Spinach Sabzi is very good for growing children as it is also packed with protein rich turdal and calcium rich spinach leaves.

Preparation time  10 minutes

Cooking time  – 15 minutes

Total time  – 25 minutes

Serves – 3 to 4 people

Ingredients  :-

  • 1 cup dill leaves finely chopped
  • 3 cups  spinach leaves finely chopped
  • 1 to 2 tbsp turdal  (thogarebele)
  • 3 tbsp roasted peanuts
  • 3 to 4 green chilly
  • 8 garlic pods
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Few curry leaves
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Water
Dill Spinach Sabzi 

Method :-

Wash turdal nicely in water and soak it for 30 minutes before  cooking the dal.

Then pressure cook the turdal in 1/2 glass water adding little turmeric powder and few drops of oil  in cooker till 3 to 4 whistles.

Allow the cooker to cool down and mash the dal nicely and keep aside.

Roast the green chilly and garlic with little oil and keep aside.

In mixer jar take roasted peanuts, roasted garlic and roasted green chilly and grind it by adding some water to fine paste.

Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and allow to crackle.

Then add in asafetida , turmeric powder, curry leaves, spinach leaves and dill leaves , sauté it for 2 to 3 minutes on medium flame.

Add half glass of water and cook till greens become soft.

Then add in turdal cooked and mashed at this stage and give a nice mix.

Put grinded paste  and salt to the boiling sabzi and cook on low flame.

Adjust the consistency by adding hot water if required.

Allow the sabzi to cook for 5 to 7 minutes on low flame closing the lid.

Lastly add in lemon juice and give a nice mix and switch off the flame.

Tasty Dill Spinach Sabzi is ready.

Enjoy the piping hot Dill Spinach Sabzi with wheat roti , jowar roti or steamed rice.

Tips :-

  • You may use green chilly and garlic with out roasting  in this recipe.
  • You may use green chilly paste to increase the spicy in the sabzi.
  • Always soak the dal in water for at least 10 minutes before cooking to get smooth and fine dal pasre.
  • You may use the blender once in the last once if you want .
