Daliya Mutter Khichdi is very simple and healthy ,light Khichdi prepared without using dal or pulses .This Khichdi is packed with full of nutrients and a immunity booster recipe. This Khichdi is prepared with very simple and common ingredients that are available in all the households. Broken Wheat khichdi can be considered as diabetic friendly daliya recipe.
Daliya is a textured grain made by cutting wheat into small pieces. Broken wheat is full of fiber , which is very good for weight loss and proper digestion. This daliya controls the blood sugar levels in the body as it has lots of fiber. Daliya also provides energy to perform the daily activity . Peas that is used in this recipe is a good source of fiber , Vitamin C , A , K , iron , folate , iron and manganese . Fresh peas I has a low glycemic index , so very good for maintaining sugar levels in the body.

Preparation time – 10 minutes
Cooking time – 20 minutes
Total time – 30 minutes
Serves – 2 persons
- 1 cup broken wheat or daliya
- 2 cups fresh green peas or mutter
- 1/2 cup spring onions finely chopped
- 1 tsp turmeric powder (1/2 + 1/2 )
- 3 to 4 green chilly
- 5 garlic pods
- 1/2 inch ginger
- 1 potato
- 1 onion sliced
- 1 tomato chopped
- 1bay lleaf
- Pinch asafetida
- 1 ¼ tbsp oil (1 +1/4 )
- 1/2 tbsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds ( 1/2 +1/2 )
Wash the daliya nicely in water for one to two times and soak in the water for 30 minutes minimum or overnight .
Grind coriander seeds , half teaspoon of cumin , ginger and garlic to coarse paste with out water.
Crush mutter or fresh green peas and green chilly to coarse paste with 1 to 2 tsp of water or with out water.
Heat 4 cups of water in a vessel until it starts to boil.
Then add in daliya , peas paste , potato chopped, quarter tbsp oil, turmeric powder and salt.
Give a nice mix once and cook till one boil.
Then cook it directly on stove top or else transfer it to the cooker and cooker for three to four whistles.
Allow the cooker to cool down completely, in the mean time prepare the tempering.
Heat the oil left over in a kadai , add in left over cumin seeds , turmeric powder , bay leaf and asafetida and give a nice mix and sauté.
When the cumin seeds splutter ,add in onion and one green chilly and sauté till light pink.
Then add in masala paste and sauté for a minute.
Put in tomato , and sauté slightly and add in spring onion and give a nice mix once and switch off the stove.
Transfer this tempering to the cooked khichdi and give a nice mix once.
Then cook the khichdi on low flame now.
At this stage , check and add in salt if necessary and then pour hot water to the boiling khichdi as per your requirement .
Then cook the Daliya Mutter Khichdi on low flame closing the lid for 3 to 4 minutes.
Lastly garnish the Daaliya Mutter Khichdi with spring onion and coriander leaves.
Serve hot and spicy Daliya Mutter Khichdi with curds.
- Can use frozen green peas instead of fresh peas .
- Number of green chillies may vary as per individuals taste.
- You may replace daliya with the millets.
- As there is no dal in this recipe , it is better to soak the daliya for longer time so that you get nice structure or binding to the khichdi.
- 1 cup equals 100 ml.
- For one cup of daliya use 3 cups to 4 cups of water to get mushy structure in daliya.
- Use more water if you are cooking khichdi directly on stove top.
