Bhojpuri Chana Curry is one of the unique and tasty recipe traditionally prepared in Bhojpur , capital city of Madya pradesh. This Bhojpuri Chana Curry is a delicious and spicy curry packed with nutrients. Serves – 4 people
- 1/2 cup brown chickpeas or kala chana
- 2 1/2 to 3 tbsp gramflour or besan dry roasted
- 1 cup raw tomato paste
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 red chilly
- 1/2 cup onion
- 2 green chilly
- ½ tsp ginger
- 1 tsp garlic
- 1 tsp coriander and cumin powder
- 1 tsp redchilly powder
- 1 tsp dry mango powder or amchur
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/8 tsp cooking soda
- 2 tsp onion fine chopped
- 2 tsp coriander leaves fine chopped
- 1 small lemon slice
Soak the brown chick peas in water for 12 hours after washing nicely or overnight.
Next day cook the brown chickpeas with 2 cups of water , 1/4 tsp salt and cooking soda in cooker for 4 to 5 whistles.
Coarse crush onion , ginger ,garlic and green chilly in mixer jar just once using pulse mode and keep aside.
Crush the tomato to fine paste and keep aside.
Dry roast the gram flour in small nonstick kadai on low flame till the colour of the gram flour slightly changes and allow to cool down.
Heat the oil in a wide nonstick pan and put in cumin seeds and allow to splutter.
Add the roasted gram flour and stir constantly till roasted nicely for a minute or so,
Immediately add the coarse onion paste and roast till light pink.
Now add the tomato paste and stir once nicely and cook on low flame closing the lid till the gravy leaves the oil from the sides or till tomato is nicely roasted.
Then add all dry masalas and salt and give a nice mix.
Add in 2 tbsp of water roast nicely and then add the boiled chana along with water and mix nicely.
Check the consistency of the curry and add hot water if you want and cook the curry on low flame closing the lis for 2 to 3 minutes.
When the Bhojpuri Chana curry is nicely boiled, switch off the stove.
Serve the hot and spicy Bhojpuri Chana topped with onion and coriander leaves with lemon along with roti, khulcha or chapathi.
- You may avoid prior roasting od gram flour and add directly in the curry, but in that case you have roast gram flour for longer time carefully so that no raw flavor of gram flour exists.
- You may serve this curry along with poori also.
