Banana Payasam

Banana Payasam is very delicious and nutritious sweet dish or dessert  or kheer recipe. It goes well on fasting days and on festival days as an offering to God. It is a quick and easy recipe and tastes best when served chilled. It can be served in breakfast  or lunch or dinner.  The best part of the recipe is that can be enjoyed through out the year.

This Banana Payasam is very good for growing children as it packed with calcium rich milk and power house of nutrients  that is banana. Banana is  loaded with essential vitamins and minerals such as potassium , calcium , manganese , magnesium , iron, folate and B6. These all contribute to the proper functioning of the body. Banana contains fiber which is very help full for digestion.  I have shared the healthier version of this recipe by using rock sugar and this recipe can be prepared with out using any sweetner.  So friends try this sattvic sweet dish recipe at your homes.

Banana Payasam

Preparation time – 5 minutes

Cooking time  – 20 minutes

Total time – 25 minutes

Makes – 4 to 5 servings

Ingredients :-

  • 500 ml full fat milk
  • 2 ripen bananas
  • 3 to 4 tbsp rock sugar (red )
  • 1 1/2  tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp cashew nut paste
  • 1 tbsp almond flakes
  • Rose petal and fried nuts  for garnish

Method :-

Heat 450 ml milk in a thick bottom vessel or pan on low flame, till one boil.

In the mean time  mix  milk powder with 25 ml milk with out lumps and keep aside.

Then crush cashew nuts to fine paste adding milk and  keep ready.

When milk starts to boil , add the milk paste and keep stirring constantly for 2 minutes.

Then add in cashew nuts paste and keep stirring constantly on low flame till slightly thick.

At this stage combine almond flakes and rock sugar to the boiling milk and stir nicely on low flame until sugar melts.

Lastly add in cardamom powder and give a nice mix once , switch off the stove.

When the milk cools down , it become still more thick ,so avoid over heating at this stage.

Allow the sweet to cool at least for 15 minutes,then add the bananas in this way.

Finely chop 1 ½ banana and mash another half banana  slightly using a masher.

Then add both to the payasam and give a nice mix.

Serve the tasty and yummy Banana Payasam topped with fried nuts and rose petals.

Tips :-

  • Can skip sugar and prepare this payasam with out any sweetener as it contains natural sweetener banana .
  • Soak cashew nuts in hot water or hot milk to get fine paste.
  • May use yelakki banana instead of regular banana.
  • Can include tutti fruiti and saffron in this recipe.
  • Adjust the consistency of payasam by adding the some milk at room temperature  if the payasam has become thick.
  • Always grease the pan or vessel with ghee before heating heating to avoid burning or sticking of the milk in the bottom of the vessel while preparing any sweet dish from milk.
