Amla Green Chutney is very healthy Chutney that you can have every day as it power house of nutrients .Amla is a magical fruit which is widely used in Ayurveda and a main ingredient in famous Ayurvedic preparations like Chavanprash and triphla. Amla is richest in Vitamin C and antioxidants, so very good to improve the immune system. Amla is very good for the heart and it reduces cholesterol levels in the body and it has also various other benefits. Amla should be consumed in juice , powdered or in raw form to reap the complete benefits.

Preparation time – 10 minutes
Grinding time – 5 minutes
Total time – 15 minutes
Serves – 8 to 10 people
- 8 big amla or Indian gooseberry ( nearly 200 gms )
- 3 to 4 green chilly
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1 tbsp split black gram ( urad dal )
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp oil ( 3/4 tbsp + 1/4 tbsp )
- 1 cup coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp jaggery (opt )
- 1/2 cup curds
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp black gram
- Few curry leaves
Wash the Amla nicely and steam the amlas in cooker or steamer for 5 minutes and allow to cool down .
Wash the coriander leaves nicely and spread them on a cloth so that all the wetness is absorbed.
Take out the amla from the steamer and cut off the pulp from the amlas and remove the seeds.
Heat oil in a small kadai and put in fenugreek seeds and roast till light brown and immediately add in black gram and roast till golden brown.
Add green chilly as a whole as it is roast slightly till you see white spots slightly.
Then put in dry copra and saute for a minute till light brown.
Now add amla pieces and give a nice mix and roast for two to three minutes on low flame.
Lastly put in turmeric powder and give a nice mix and switch off the stove.
Allow to cool down and crush to coarse paste adding salt, jaggery and coarse paste.
Do not add water while grinding the chutney.
Heat the remaining oil in a small wok and add in mustard seeds and cumin seeds allow them to splutter.
Then add black gram and roast till light golden brown and put in curry and give a nice mix and switch off the stove.
Put the tempering on the prepared Chutney and give a nice mix.
Divide the Spicy Amla Green Chutney in to two portions add water to one portion of the chutney and mix nicely.
Add in thick curds to another portion of the chutney and mix nicely.
Serve healthy and spicy Amla Green Chutney with hot steamed rice along with ghee.
Garnish the Amla Green Chutney with the tempering and serve.
- You may use the amla without steaming directly to prepare the chutney.
- You may store this chutney with out adding water in freezer for one week to ten days.
- You may serve this chutney with idli , dosa and chapathi or roti.
